Η Βραδιά του Ερευνητή, ένας θεσμός αφιερωμένος στην ανάδειξη της επιστήμης και της έρευνας, αποτελεί μια ετήσια πανευρωπαϊκή πρωτοβουλία που φέρνει κοντά ερευνητές και κοινό σε πάνω από 400 πόλεις της Ευρώπης.
Στην Ελλάδα, η δράση αυτή εξαπλώνεται σε επτά πόλεις, ενώ σε αυτή συμμετέχουν πανεπιστήμια, ερευνητικά κέντρα και πλήθος επιστημόνων που προωθούν την επιστημονική γνώση και καλλιεργούν το ενδιαφέρον των πολιτών για την έρευνα.
Στο πλαίσιο της Βραδιάς του Ερευνητή 2024, οι μαθητές της Δ’ τάξης του Δημοτικού Σχολείου Γόννων και ο δάσκαλός τους κ. Γεώργιος Κυρίτσης, είχαν την ευκαιρία να συμμετάσχουν σε μια σημαντική δράση. Μέσω ενός chatlab, οι μαθητές/τριες συνομίλησαν με τον κ. Θωμά Καραμπατζάκη, απόφοιτο του τμήματος Βιοχημείας και Βιοτεχνολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας. Στην αρχή της συνομιλίας, τα παιδιά ενημερώθηκαν για τη σημασία της επιστήμης και τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η επιστημονική σκέψη μπορεί να μας βοηθήσει στην προσέγγιση και επίλυση διάφορων προβλημάτων, μαθαίνοντας τη διαδικασία του να παρατηρούν, να ελέγχουν και να πειραματίζονται.
Η συζήτηση εστίασε ειδικά σε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα περιβαλλοντικά προβλήματα, τη μόλυνση του περιβάλλοντος, και τους τρόπους με τους οποίους μπορούμε να συμβάλουμε στη μείωσή της, όπως η ανακύκλωση. Ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον προκάλεσε η θεματολογία γύρω από τη συγκομιδή της ελιάς και τα υποπροϊόντα που δημιουργούνται κατά τη διαδικασία αυτή, όπως τα φύλλα, καθώς και από την επεξεργασία της ελιάς σε ελαιουργεία. Ο κ. Καραμπατζάκης εξήγησε στα παιδιά πώς αυτά τα υπολείμματα, που συχνά απορρίπτονται ανεξέλεγκτα και επιβαρύνουν το περιβάλλον, μπορούν, με την κατάλληλη διαχείριση, να μετατραπούν σε χρήσιμους πόρους για τον άνθρωπο και το περιβάλλον.
Το τμήμα Βιοχημείας και Βιοτεχνολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας, όπως ενημέρωσε ο κ. Καραμπατζάκης, εργάζεται πάνω σε αντίστοιχα πρότζεκτ για την αξιοποίηση αυτών των υπολειμμάτων, συνδυάζοντας την έρευνα με πρακτικές λύσεις φιλικές προς το περιβάλλον.
Η τηλεδιάσκεψη ολοκληρώθηκε με μεγάλη ικανοποίηση από τους μαθητές και τον κ. Καραμπατζάκη, καθώς όλοι συμφώνησαν ότι αυτή η πρώτη επαφή με τον κόσμο της επιστήμης ήταν μια πολύτιμη εμπειρία. Υποσχέθηκαν, μάλιστα, να επαναλάβουν τη δράση σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα για περαιτέρω εξερεύνηση των επιστημονικών θεμάτων που απασχολούν τη νέα γενιά.
The Researcher's Night, an institution dedicated to the promotion of science and research, is an annual pan-European initiative that brings together researchers and the public in over 400 cities in Europe.
In Greece, this action spreads to seven cities, while universities, research centers and a multitude of scientists who promote scientific knowledge and cultivate citizens' interest in research participate in it.
As part of the Researcher's Night 2024, the 4th grade students of Gonnon Primary School and their teacher Mr. Georgios Kyritsis, had the opportunity to participate in an important action. Through a chatlab, the students spoke with Mr. Thomas Karabatzakis, a graduate of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly. At the beginning of the conversation, the children were informed about the importance of science and how scientific thinking can help us approach and solve various problems, learning the process of observing, controlling and experimenting.
The discussion focused specifically on one of the most important environmental problems, environmental pollution, and the ways in which we can contribute to its reduction, such as recycling. Particular interest was aroused by the topic of olive harvesting and the by-products created during this process, such as leaves, as well as from the processing of olives in olive mills. Mr. Karabatzakis explained to the children how these residues, which are often discarded uncontrollably and burden the environment, can, with appropriate management, be transformed into useful resources for humans and the environment.
The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly, as informed by Mr. Karabatzakis, is working on similar projects for the utilization of these residues, combining research with practical, environmentally friendly solutions.
The teleconference ended with great satisfaction from the students and Mr. Karabatzakis, as everyone agreed that this first contact with the world of science was a valuable experience. They even promised to repeat the action in a short time to further explore the scientific issues that concern the new generation.
