At Gonnon Primary School, on the occasion of the celebration of the European Day of Languages on September 26, an educational activity was held that aimed to promote foreign languages and strengthen multilingualism among students.
The activity was organized with special care and passion by the English Language teachers, Mrs. Evangelia Gkeka, and the French Language teachers, Mrs. Kyriaki Panagou. Students from grades 2, 3, 5 and 6 participated in the activities, who enthusiastically and willingly took part in original activities and interactive games. The teachers designed activities that promote cooperation between children, understanding of European cultures, as well as the value of learning foreign languages. The focus of these activities was on discovering the linguistic diversity of the European Union, cultivating curiosity about other languages and raising children’s awareness of the importance of multilingualism in the modern world
The activities included:
Language games: Children participated in fun games where they learned words and phrases from various European languages, such as English, French, German and Italian. These games were in the form of quizzes, aiming to familiarize students with basic concepts and words from each language, while promoting cooperation and teamwork.
Interactive workshops: Students worked in groups to create posters and drawings that depicted the different cultural elements of the countries of Europe. With an emphasis on languages, each group focused on a different country, recording important phrases and symbols of its culture.
The school principal would like to warmly thank the teachers, Mrs. Evangelia Gheka and Kyriaki Panagou as the action they coordinated is a successful step towards raising children's awareness of foreign languages and European culture, while at the same time contributing to the creation of a climate of interaction and cooperation in the school environment. The students actively participated, developed their skills and left the best impressions.
The European Day of Languages is celebrated every year throughout Europe with the aim of encouraging language learning and enhancing linguistic diversity. Through such actions, our school contributes to the cultivation of European awareness and the promotion of multiculturalism.
